Saboten in Osaka

Terrible. We experienced incredibly slow and rude staff. We also saw the chef constantly eating from customer plates in the kitchen. Overpriced, unprofessional and disappointing.

Great service and tasty authentic Mexican food. Nice refreshing margaritas. Reasonably priced. Hard to reach or find but worth the navigating to get to.

Great Mexican place with an authentic vibe! Also open late! The menu is more robust than many of the "Mexican" restaurants in Osaka. The waitress we got didn't seem to have ever had Mexican food herself (she had to go ask the cook every time I asked her a question) but maybe she was new.We had the Enchiladas Rojas and a bacon quesadilla, both delicious. We also had the small app platter and chips and salsa. The pickles were pleasant, the potato salad was excellent, and the salsa was delightful.There did not appear to be any highchairs around (but possibly I just didn't see them). A stroller doesn't seem out of the question. No kids menu.

Best best best mexican food in Japan! Loved the nachos, everything was v reasonably priced and delicious! Service was wonderful, they even gave us tequila on the house. Pretty busy so you may need to wait a few minutes but it's absolutely worth it! 👌👌👌

Fresh and full-of-tastes food, moderate portions. They have Mexican chef there! Maybe, prices were a bit too big but in total, we enjoyed it.

Great ambiance, nice staff, but food prices for the amount of food is a bit expensive. 1 taco is around 500-700 yen. I would understand if it's that price for a medium sized taco but these were quite small. A strawberry margarita is 880 yen and it came in a small cup. Not to mention the burrito here is mainly sauce, veggies, and some pork? The tinga quesadillas were good. Out of all the things we had, I recommend the shrimp, beef tongue, and beef tacos. This dining experience didn't go well as we waited 20-30 minutes for a few things. Maybe it was just not a good day today.

Atmosphere is nice, food takes a long time to come. Tax is not included in the price. A few years ago they had a good selection of hot sauces on the tables, but that is gone now.

The place is beautiful; the staff is kind and friendly. The food is the best Mexican food I have tried in Japan, the closes to real Mexican food. Just be aware, the menu is different at lunch and dinner.

Incredible taste and quality! Definitely the best tacos I’ve found in Osaka. Everything is super fresh and homemade. For about $12 USD (incl tax) you get two big tacos, a generous scoop of guacamole, and a some chicharrones. As my wife (Japanese) said, “Wow!!! These tacos are better than the ones we had in California!!!” And then on our walk home, she mentioned “Those tacos were SO GOOD!” like 10 times. We will definitely return and recommend Saboten to our friends.

It took a very long time for our order to come. Food was very good. But they forgot our Tacos! We waited 20 minutes before asking, and despite it being on the ticket, they forgot. Bill was ¥3100. I don't know about you, but if I pay that much for 2 dishes I want to leave satisfied. Instead, I was hungry and irritated.

Although its on the pricey side and the portions are a bit small, i like their soft shell tacos and tortillas. They feel more homemade and are really delicious.!

Always great food and service, have been here a few times in Osaka and it never disappoints. Some of the employees speak English which is very helpful, they are also very accommodating for food allergies.

Food is amazing! Chef and owner is legit from Mexico so you know it’s a legitimate Mexican restaurant. The best Mexican I’ve had in Osaka. Awesome vibe. They have Taco Tuesday’s. Don’t expect the California taco truck prices.

Authentic Mexican cuisine. Taco Tuesday gets crowded so make a reservation. It's not on the taco Tuesday menu, but treat yourself to the tacos lengua. They are delicious!

Good mexican food...service is a bit slow

I’m very nearly a Saboten regular now! They have great tacos—and a satisfying range of them on the menu, at that. It’s a taaaaad bit on the pricey side, and I always anticipate a pretty considerable wait for food when I come. But it’s worth it! I’ll be back 🤗

This restaurant was WONDERFUL! The staff was welcoming and inviting, the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS! EXCELLENT! The ambiance was warm and friendly. This is a terrific place and I highly recommend it. But it is popular and fills up quickly so...don't dawdle!

Uninspiring service, average food, surprising prices —watch our for how much you get charged when they ask you if you want things (I.e.: cilantro) which normally come for free in other places

Overpriced, average-tasting Mexican food. They will offer you cilantro without telling you that you'll get charged for it, on top of a 300 yen per person "service charge" that is also hidden. Starts to add up pretty quickly. Menu is in Japanese only (despite the place clearly catering to a foreigner clientele). The server, who is a caucasian woman, appeared more intent on showing off her Japanese speaking skills as opposed to helping our group of non-Japanese speakers understand the menu and order (she kept muttering words in Japanese and when asked about the menu, said she forgot how to say a certain word in English). "Medium-sized" beer, which goes for 800 yen, is about 200ml (!). Food portions are also disappointingly small. Oh, and the place is filled with cigarette smoke. On the bright side, the music is good.

Best Mexican food in Osaka - hands down. Ran by a Mexican guy who knows his stuff. Go there for Tuesdays and get cheap amazing tacos. Seriously, you won't regret it.

Didn't think I'd have to travel to Japan to find the best Mexican food I've ever tasted. Great specials and the best burrito I've ever had. I can't speak for other Mexican restaurants, but I'm from the U.S. so I would never have imagined that I would find superior Mexican cuisine so far away. The owner and staff are friendly and the atmosphere creates a very enjoyable experience!

The food and atmosphere here is really an authentic Mexican feel. My only objection is the price. I had 4 tacos and a glass of red wine (that was barely half full in a small glass - not one of those big wine glasses). There was a seating charge of ¥400 for which I got an amuse bouche of three tortilla chips and a half teaspoon of Pico de Gallo salsa.That being said, the tacos pastor and tinga were both delicious and served with plenty of meat. The two accompanying salsas were also very good.Service was good considering there was one waitress serving the entire place.Food came in a timely manner and the decor was simple, but warm and welcoming.

Finally! White corn tortillas, a wet burrito, and a waitress with an attitude. Love this place. Cozy. Saboten. Namba. Near the other three Mexican places and Craft Burger.

Staff speaks Japanese and English. The food was fantastic! We had the nachos, the pastor plate, and the burrito. The nachos we're cheesy and just the right amount of layers. The pastor plate comes with tortillas and toppings on the side so you can make your own tacos. The meat itself is super flavorful and comes on a bed of shredded cabbage that really went well with the meat. Finally, the burrito is huge and served with the roja verde which has a little kick to it and some type of pickled onions. So good! We will definitely be back.

Service is not great -- Tacos taste good, but they are incredibly slow and the price is too high! Also, I they forgot a whole order the first time I went... Tried giving it another try, but it was just not great...

This is easily the best Mexican food you're going to get in Osaka. So many ingredients imported from Mexico. A chef who takes his work very seriously. A huge Mexican beer and tequila selection. I can't say enough good things about this joint!

Delicious tacos for 200 yen on Tuesdays! This month they had pastor tacos and BBQ tacos.

Authentic Mexican menu, with real spices and a great tequila and mezcal menu. Be warned, the lunch menu is much more limited and changes from day to day, but still satisfies the strongest craving for Mexican food.

Excellent Mexican food. Reasonable prices. Our server even spoke English which was an added bonus.

Taco Tuesday = 250 JPY tacos! It adds up, but the regular tacos are ~900 JPY for a plate for 2, so it's a good opportunity to try out this spot on the cheap. Minimum one drink per person.The food was good, definitely more authentic than any other Mexican spot I've been to in Osaka, which tend to cater to a Japanese palate. This spot was mostly foreigners (but waitstaff are Japanese, so no language issues there).Frozen margarita at 680 JPY was the smallest margarita I've ever had, and not the strongest. Oh well. They charge an extra 30 JPY for a slice of lime for your beer and don't tell you beforehand, which is kind of sneaky.We also waited over 25 minutes (!) for one order of tacos, when another set came within 5 minutes. That really sucked.Good for when the Mexican craving hits, though our experience here was pretty frustrating.

The place charged us for food that we did not order and charges extra for cilantro. We only found out after the fact when the store closed up. The taste of the food overall does not justify the price. The margaritas were mediocre at best and the place was so heavily scented in cigarette smoke that I walked out feeling like a pack-a-day smoker. Did not provide an English menu and the workers did not even attempt to help decipher the tacky written up menu. The taste of the food should always be the main focus, this restaurant clearly does not have it as a priority. Portion sizing was also an issue, considering the pricing you would expect there to be a decent amount of food on the plate but again it comes up short which should be the only expectation you have walking into this establishment.

If you want authentic Mexican food then Mexican Restaurant Saboten is you place. Join them for ¥200 tacos special on Taco Tuesday! Your tastebuds will thank you!

Food was disappointing. Portions were small. Understaffing meant slow service. Our Margaritas were made from tequila from a PET bottle. Poor management. Won’t be returning.
